Using virtual reality to tour a restaurant

What emerging technologies can I take to the job now or in the future? In our Emerging Media Platforms class with Syracuse University, we’re talking about using virtual reality and augmented reality, among other things.

With virtual reality, you’re brought to a whole new environment, whereas with augmented reality, additional is information such as sound, graphics or data projected into your current environment.

As someone who writes a lot about restaurants and food, one thing I can imagine doing is a virtual reality tour of a restaurant to accompany a story about the location’s launch. The experience would be augmented with information about the interior, data about the menu and chief staff members such as the owner and chef and bar manager. It would also be cool to see how a specialty dish or drink is made.

Who’s up to trying it?
